7th of Januari on ZOOM - Generation Politics; the first Future Generations Commissioner - Sophie Howe, keynote and author The Good Ancestor -Roman Kznaric, Genie out of the Bottle - Lotte Meerhoff
Not about, but with..
Our politics advocate representation of the entire society, young and old. Yet achieving this goal often seems difficult. A paradox has emerged: where politics finds it difficult to involve and reach the youth, the young generation wants nothing more than to be involved and heard. In the light of the dutch elections will start Generation Politics. With a young generation dutch and European politicians for the Future (unborn) Generations. See our kick starting program underneath.
16:00U CET - START GENERATION POLITICS - SOPHIE HOWE (1977)
“We need to strengthen leadership skills at all levels to deliver on the goals of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act”.
We are pleased that Sophie Howe, our world’s only Future Generations Commissioner, will be opening Generation Politics. According to Sophie one of the biggest challenges facing organisations in the public and private sectors is professional development for senior and aspiring leaders.
Sophie Howe is currently a member of the Wales Committee of the Equality and Human Rights Commission. Her role as Future Generations Commissioner is to act as a guardian for the interest of Future Generations in Wales, and to support the public bodies listed in the Well-being of Future Generations Act 2015 to work towards achieving the well-being goals. The act listed seven goals, addressing many of these global well-being challenges.
“Now organisations have to think across all seven goals, rather than their siloed area”
Sophie states that this is a ‘once in a generation’ opportunity to remedy past failures. We need bold, collaborative, inclusive thinking and political courage and investment that will both address the short term recovery and longer term challenges. The challenges include climate change and nature loss, as well as positioning Wales to respond to the news ways of living and working in ways which tackle inequality.

16:15U CET - KEYNOTE ‘THE GOOD ANCESTOR’ - ROMAN KRZNARIC (1970)
The key-note of Generation Politics will be held by philosopher Roman Krznaric (1970). Roman has been cited by The Observer as one of Britain's foremost popular philosophers. He is a leading cultural thinker and co-founder of School of Life in London. His writings have greatly influenced political and environmental campaigners, educational reformers, social entrepreneurs and designers. His lectures and workshops have taken him from a London prison to the world stage of TED. We think Roman’s keynote will be a source of inspiration at the start of Generation Politics, for both speakers and participants.
In his book, The Good Ancestor: How to Think Long Term in a Short Term World, he argues that there is still hope. From the pyramids to the NHS, humanity has always had the innate ability to plan for posterity and take action that will resonate for decades, centuries and even millennia. The Good Ancestor will be available in Dutch on January 5th.

17:00U CET - GENIE OUT OF THE BOTTLE - LOTTE MEERHOF (1998)
On January 7th, the first ‘Genie out of the Bottle: Generation Politics’, will be given by Lotte Meerhoff (1998). Lotte has been involved with Dwars (GreenLeft youngsters) since 2017 and was vice-chair and secretary of the national board last year. Lotte also experiences the generation paradox. When the Dutch Prime Minister Rutte gave the call to action in the press conference “To come up with ideas” on May 19th 2020, she immediately asked the question: “Will something be done with it?”. Lotte stands for more youth inclusion in the political sphere. She will tell you more about this during her ‘Genie out of the bottle’.
18:00U CLOSING TO LOOK FORWARD
After this ZOOM event we will be live on ZOOM every Tuesday and Thursday between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM with young inspiring politicians, dutch and EU.
